    Great review, best I've seen. How do you think this IPS monitor would compare with say the Viewsonic VA 2447 MHU, which is MVA not IPS? • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY 13 дней назад

      Not really. I still have about 6 that I use actively and about 8 on my shelf. I haven't picked up any new ones recently and they have lost popularity since I first started reviewing them. They also aren't as easily available as they use to be. The biggest factor could be time. I have a dozen ideas for Hikvision videos, but it's difficult to find time to put them together, especially in the summer. Great question by the way!

    So lets say camera is plugged off or not connected to internet. Then it wont record right?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY 23 дня назад

      I'm not sure what 'plugged off' means, but the camera actually connects to WiFi on your local network and not the Internet directly. The local network is connected to the Internet. If there Internet connection is off, the camera will use RTSP on the local network and continue to stream to any device on the network. So, if there is no Internet, the camera will still record to an NVR or stream. If the camera is not connected to WiFi, then no other devices on the network will pick up the stream. If the camera has a micro-SD card, it doesn't need a WiFi connection to record footage. Hope this helps.

    Does anyone know how I can create more Patterns? My NVR/PTZ Cam has only given me 1. Pattern option, but in the “Preset Column” it clearly states Call 1. Pattern, Call 2. Pattern, Call 3. Pattern… and so on. Up to 6 Calls. I just would like to have the option of having more than 1 pattern at a time to call on. If I want more than one, I would have to go to the “Pattern Column” and erase and create a new one. ? ? ?

    If you fill the hard drive does it prompt you? Does it overwrite old data and start anew?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY Месяц назад

      No, it doesn't prompt you. The NVR will automatically delete the oldest footage file by file and create room for new footage as required. It's like a rolling timeline. If the drive is full, it will delete 1-2 old files to make room for the new one. Once it's full again (an hour or so later), it will delete the oldest 1-2 again and write the new.

      I am not sure what area you are in for Amazon. I shop inventory in the amazon.com and .ca regions. There aren't really many options since it's older technology. This is the 4TB Fantom with the eSata cable included and is just over 200: amzn.to/4azGxgZ I have not tested this, but maybe an eSata docking station would work. You would just need to bring your own HDD. I think you can get cheap ones, but here is one that is about $100: amzn.to/3KdIaWX

      I am still using this weather station several years later. The software is still terrible and I don't use it at all. The wind measurement spinner has seized up. The rain gauge is also no longer accurate and reports triple the actual. I basically use it for what's left; measuring temperature, wind direction and pressure. The indoor screen sits on my desk and works as a great nightlight.

    Good video. I didn't know we could not see the security camera files on a Windows Computer when plugging in the drive containing Reolink Cam footage that came from the NVR into a desktop computer. I presume one would be able to see those files if we were running the correct flavor and version of Linux? That's a question because I know nothing about Linux.. I did order an external drive enclosure that had eSata capability and put a 4TB high duty cycle drive into it, but it would only format as a two TB drive - probably had to do with the firmware in the external drive. I cannot recall if I formatted the drive first with a computer or with the NVR as you showed - I'll have to check now. On another topic I still suspect that Reolink PoE only setups with NO Internet connection and DNS turned off can be accessed by third parties remotely. In other words there is a way to hack the system from nearby _ I think it needs line of sight and IR initially but then once they have the camera and NVR info they can just access the entire system remotely even if the user has no internet features turned on. It may be that the US requires such access for any devices sold in the US to have a back door for law enforcement

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY Месяц назад

      Thanks! Very true, the files could be visible if running Linux. My computer could see the drive through Computer Management, but it didn't have a drive letter. That is odd about the 4TB drive only formatting as a 2. I haven't heard of your third point before. I'll keep an ear out for more info on that one.

    Hello, i need your advice...tell me please, i bought a new RLN12W NVR, installed and managed to activate my cameras , but i dont understand, now i can unplug the internet cable from NVR to let this on Wi-Fi or must be always connected to internet with cable? This NVR is not with cable ad wi-fi?

      I think the NVR has to be connected to your network with the cable. The WIFI functionality is only between the NVR and the cameras.

      @@HomeTechDIY Ah, i understand, thank you very much. I noticed, because i unpluged my internet cable and the cameras gone off. IS bad, because i bought a new Tenda TX27 Pro router, and damn router have only 2 LAN's, in one i have my laptop and in the other one i have a Boavision Camera at my balcony, for my car. I tried to add this non Reolink camera to my NVR and i didn't succeded, i tried with onvif setting and with IP, but i couldn't add this, i guess Reolink don't allow other cameras to connect with their things. Any advice please, how to connect this camera with Reolink NVR? This means i have to unplug the camera cable to put internet cable for NVR, because my router have only 2 LAN's, sadly, is the latest router with Wi-Fi 6, but sadly have only 2 LAN's and one useless for me IPTV or something. Can i add something in one LAN port, to make from there 1 LAN for camera and one LAN for NVR? Is there any device i can plug in one of the 2 LAN'S? Forgive me, i am new with these things.

      Since your router only has 2 ports, you can split one of the ports into many using an unmanaged network switch. This will give you more ports for other devices. Here is a picture of how it works: cdn.ttgtmedia.com/rms/onlineimages/whatis-network_switch.png Here is an example of one on Amazon. Connect this to your router and you will have many more ports. Make sure you have enough CAT6 ethernet cables. Switch link: amzn.to/4bunkOn You are on the right track to add the Boavision camera to the Reolink NVR. Make sure ONVIF is turned on in the Boavision camera. Manually enter the Boavision camera's IP address in the Reolink NVR. It should look like 192.168.0.?:8080. I am not familiar with those cameras, but you might even need to setup up an ONVIF user in the camera's app. That said, certain cameras are not compatible with the Reolink NVR. Hope this helps.

      The modem plus into the LAN port on the NVR and the mini dome plugs into any one of the group of camera or channel ports. Are you using a mobile app to try and see the cameras?

      @@HomeTechDIY I would like to be able to see the footage on a TV screen with the NVR or DVR but I would also like to be able to access the footage via my laptop. I'm going away for a three months so I'm trying to prepare for that but I don't know how much data that means on a DVR or NVR. The info would be helpful. Thanks!!

    • @HomeTechDIY

      There is an HDMI port on the NVR to see the live feed and footage on a TV. To access the NVR using a laptop, I think the PC app is called iVMS. I used it a few years ago and it was difficult to setup. There is also an iPhone app, and also difficult to get working. I am no longer using my NVR, but rather a dedicated PC to record my cameras. Maybe research, Hikvision Remove Viewing of NVR for more information. To see how much data you use on the NVR hard drive, look up Storage Capacity Calculator. Here is an example: www.westerndigital.com/tools/surveillance-capacity-calculator Hope this helps!

      @@HomeTechDIY Thanks for your prompt response. Is there a way to contact you direct? I researched the 6MP Vandal Dome PoE IP Camera. I'd ideally like to use a DVR but be able to access the footage from afar. I feel like I'm repeating myself because I am so confused.

      Sorry, I don't offer one on one services at this time. I don't have anything additional to add on remote access of the Hikvision NVR. I think one of their remote options is called Hik-Connect. I tried to set it up last year and couldn't figure it out.

    Quick note... in fires people don't die from the flame, its the smoke that's the main killer. If you HAVE to run through HVAC, make sure you have an FT4 fire rated cable. Be safe.

      Hi. The 2 wires outside connect to my chime and the power from my existing doorbell. This model doesn't connect to a breaker panel itself, you would need a battery operated device for that. Not sure what you mean by how much wire is needed beside enough to stretch from the outside install location to the already installed chime. Hope this helps.

      @HomeTechDIY 2 месяца назад

      You're welcome. I don't think these extenders are available using PoE from a PoE switch, but there are some models which only have 1 power adapter and use PoE technology to power both the TX and RX. Here is an example, but you cannot use multiple RX and the device use one network cable and not the network. amzn.to/4a5y5FQ

    Why not send the powerline network through a light bulb socket so people can use this technology outside? This is especially useful for someone like me who already has ethernet wired inside and does not like wireless unless it's for a phone or tablet.

      Interesting but how would you inject and extract the network into and out of light bulb sockets?
